CDM
Validation:
Validation is an important step for a project that is to be registered as emission reduction project at the United Nations. Only accredited third parties are entitled to provide validation service. As part of the validation process, eligibilities including additionality, estimation of emission reduction and monitoring plan are examined in accordance¡¡with an applied approved methodology.
Verification and Certification:
Compared to validation, which is for registering a project plan with UNFCCC, verification and certification are ex-post services to fix emission reductions achieved. Monitoring report on a specific time period in the past is submitted to the verifier in order to be evaluated its credibility, particularly the measured data as well as calculations and results. Certificate will be issued by the verifier accordingly to apply for verified emission reductions called CERs in case of CDM project, which is tradable in the carbon offset market.
Climate neutral events and activities:
Some event and activity could be considered as ¡Èclimate neutral¡É, when relevant emissions caused by the event or activity are compensated by emission reductions from climate change projects.
Corporate policy on climate change services:
TÜV SÜD does not offer any climate change services other than the validation, verification and certification services as offered by the department of Carbon Management Service. The Certification Body "Climate and Energy" is responsible for monitoring and reporting any potential conflict of interest. See Declaration
