TÜV SÜD Japan Japan conducts third party benchmark tests for commercially-distributed tires

2009/07/10

TÜV SÜD Japan Ltd. (Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Andreas Stange, President and CEO) is a third-party test laboratory that provides development support and a widerange of services to automotive manufacturers, including product testing, certification, and engineering support. TÜV SÜD has conducted benchmark tests on tires sold on the Japanese market.

Background of conducting benchmark tests

TÜV SÜD has conducted several such benchmark tests in Europe at the request of manufactures and mass media. TÜV SÜD’s benchmark tests are held in high esteem. Founded upon our know-how and trust gained from customers in Europe and our experience in Japan as a testing authority that provides credible and neutral evaluations, we offer a support to manufacturers and consumers from the angle of product performance evaluation. As one of these examples, we conducted the following benchmark test.

Standard tires were selected from tires sold in the Japanese market (size: 195/65 R15 91H, one brand was conducted with 91S), based upon criteria such as easily obtainable, wide range of size lineup and not restricted to a specific function. The benchmark test was conducted using proprietary evaluation methods and test criteria included wet and dry performance, noise, rolling resistance, fuel economy and tread wear/service life.

In Germany where TÜV SÜD is headquartered, numerous requests are received for the same bench mark tests from the parties such as tire manufacturers and mass media, and the test results are frequently published in the media. This tire benchmark test results are the premier of its kind on the Japanese market.

Our future goals

TÜV SÜD Japan provides reliable, impartial information and it is our goal to continue to conduct such evaluations and publish unbiased results as a third-party in the future. TÜV SÜD Japan seeks to achieve good results in the field of evaluating the performance of automotive related products.
