TÜV SÜD presented with the Annual Best Certification Service Institution award
Shenzhen, China. On May 10th, 2015, TÜV SÜD, the world's leading technical service organisation, was presented with the “Annual Best Certification Service Institution in the Energy Storage Industry” award for its contributions to the development of safe and quality energy storage systems at the recent China International Energy Storage Station Congress.
TÜV SÜD was presented with the “Annual Best Certification Service Institution in the Energy Storage Industry” award at the recent China International Energy Storage Station Congress (ESSC) for its contribution to the industry. Mr. Volker Blandow, head of the e-Mobility business line, received the award on behalf of TÜV SÜD. ESSC is one of the most prestigious energy storage conferences in China and was attended by more than 1,000 experts in the energy storage field, including representatives of the National Energy Administration, Ministry of Science and Technology,Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, State Grid Corporation of China, ESS system enterprises and battery manufacturers, who shared ideas and opinions on topics such as technological and market developments in the industry.
TÜV SÜD provides the first standard for energy storage systems
The global energy storage industry has been actively developing power storage products, hence the technical standards and safety regulations for Rechargeable Energy Storage Systems (RESS) are also evolving to keep up with the emergence of these new technologies. To meet the needs of this rapidly changing industry, TÜV SÜD has taken the lead to formulate and issue the standard PPP 59034A:2014 for RESS ahead of international standardisation organisations. “Our TÜV SÜD standard ensures that energy storage systems are safe. We have been able to respond faster than other standardisation and testing organisations, thanks to our long-standing experience in the field of battery testing and associated power electronics for mobile and stationary applications”, explains Volker Blandow.
Certification in line with the TÜV SÜD RESS Standard is based on the company’s comprehensive experience in the field of safety testing of lithium-ion batteries, inverters, power electronics and Functional Safety, which were incorporated into a targeted programme of tests. The test standard includes checks of the mechanical, electrical and software-related design of the storage system, safety and environmental tests on the batteries, inverter tests for safety and network compliance, review of the product documentation for completeness and plausibility, and on-site inspection of ongoing large-scale production at the manufacturer's premises.
This standard was developed based on TÜV SÜD’s wide experience and technical expertise in the fields of photovoltaic energy, wind energy and storage energy cells, as well as experience gained from working with countries such as Germany, Italy and Japan, which are amongst the top in renewable energy applications. In addition, TÜV SÜD also provides training, consultation, product testing and certification services to effectively bridge any gaps in current RESS standards.
